So it's rather obvious that hardly anyone is ever getting on this board. We need more people than about four active members. Anyone have any suggestions on as to how to get more people? I've been racking my brain and have come up with virtually nothing. Any suggestions? I was thinking of saying anyone who gets more people to sign up and be active gets.... Then I realized I had nothing to offer. That's what's frustrating! If you can think of anything I can offer, please tell me that too! I'm close to offering higher positions on the site.

The thing is you need more affiliates, affiliates that are more active than the ones you got (No offense, I am mortified about giving offense). Another thing I noticed is that the forum needs to be a bit more general so that you get a variety of members. You seem to focus a lot on country and oldie music which is kinda obscure. This has always helped me: support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=promotion&action=display&thread=28696I hope that helps. I really like this forum.

Thanks for the advice. No offense was taken I've been trying to find more affiliates, it's just that all of them I find seem to not be even less active than this one. I found another site that might help. I don't know if it is yet, but I posted this board on it. This is the site if you would like to use it for your board. www.heynounce.com/

You could affiliate with my affiliates. Harry Potter Cast.net are a young site and they are alwys looking for affiliates, So Bonnie online is a good choice as well and my other favourite would be magical managerie too. Thanks for the heynounce site. I'm going to think about it some more.

I will definitely check your affiliates out. Have any suggestions by any chance for any more threads to put up to make it more of a variety?

I'm sorry, I can't seem to think of any. You have some universal threads already like the shoe thread, the how many cds threads. I suppose you could ask about family, what sports people play, what is their dream job. Do you have links in your signature on your other forums? That's how we got some people on HP Fan Forum. Also it's hard to group you, how would you describe your site? For example I know to target HP fan forum to HP fans and websites but I don't know how to catagorize your site.

Thank you so much for the help. I went to the support board and tried advertising there. So far nothing from that, but it's only been a few hours. My problem is I can't seem to find that many boards to affiliate or advertise on I've been adding lots of little things all day to the board. New skins, and a few more sections. Hopefully that will help! Yes I do have my board in other sigs, the problem is I don't belong to that many active boards.

It's going to take time. Sometimes it takes weeks and months for new members to come. Perhaps you should advertise on websites instead of forums. When you get new members the next problem is how to keep them active. How about getting more of your friends to join? My little brother is the student chairperson at his school and he created a forum for the school. The problem was that nobody was active and there were hardly any members. So he offered five dollars to the first person who got five other people to join. So with all his classmates wanting five dollars, he got many members and now the forum is running well.

Hmm I wonder what websites I could try then. Most of my friends actually had joined...but that was the end of it unfortunately If I had money to offer, I'd do that lol.

Having an active forum is better than having heaps of members. I think that what Star and Lissy are doing is the best thing for the site- what gave the forum so much of it's appeal was that it seemed friendly and reasonably active. And because it's not a huge site there's really a sense of community (I find that when forum's get over 500 active members it's really hard to keep that sense of community there, because people divide themselves into cliques... But that's a whole other issue. =P ).

That is true. also... it gets confusing when everyone is posting in the same thread at the same time. So it is true that sometimes a small community is better. but hey, its always good to make new friends. Thank you for that incite, Calliope!

Getting new members is the 64 thousand dollar question. I wish I knew how to do it. My site is brand new, been online since Feb. 2008, we have been advertising on all the search engines I can find. Look at the bottom of my board and you will find a link so you can submit your site for free.

Yup. This one's been running since Feb '05, we just hadn't really tried really hard to get members until lately. We've gotten members, just not active ones for the most part. Thanks for the info, I'll do that sometime.

Yeah, I know I've gotten about 4 members due to the affiliation thing. Basically unless you want to be extremely annoying you can't get members easily Thanks for trying to help I appreciate everyone trying to!
